Stan Greenfield

About The Artist

As a young boy, Stan started to show interest in art by drawing characters from the comic books of the day. Action figures such as Superman and Batman captivated his interest as he made pencil sketches of them for his art scrapbook. When he entered his early teens, he sat in this father’s restaurant and drew portraits of young men who were going into the military. Those portraits were displayed on the wall of the restaurant and became a sort of gallery or honor roll.

Education

Stan’s high school years were spent at Music and Art High School in Manhattan that focused on gifted students in the fields of art and music. He continued his education at City College of NY majoring in art and soon envisioned a career as a graphic designer in advertising. At college his interest in painting began in watercolors and some oils. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in art. When he graduated, he was honored with the James R. Steers prize for excellence in art.

A Career Starts

After graduation, Stan worked for different advertising agencies and art studios and eventually went into his own business. He learned to use the computer after using pastels and magic markers for half his professional career. His experience with the computer is still a tool he uses today in creating his paintings. His Fortune 500 clients made use of his new founded skills in creating designs for Annual Reports, Ads, Direct Mail, Brochures, etc. Great satisfaction was achieved in creating layouts for commercial purposes. That business lasted for many years. His career was successful and fulfilling but he needed something new to focus on and enjoy.

Upon Retirement

Stan moved to Florida and started the next phase of his life. He took a painting course at an art school and after finishing his first painting, he knew he was hooked. The passion was ignited into landscapes, portraits and all different subjects, many of which are exhibited here. The more he painted, the better he got. His home and walls are filled with his work and jokingly he refers to one certain area as “The Great Wall” which displays 20 of his paintings. “It’s fun and the sense of accomplishment is very gratifying.”

He now shares his painting life between Florida in the winter and the Berkshires of Massachusetts in the summer. Please enjoy his work as much as he enjoyed creating it.
